The Evil Empire

This original song was written by Micha Goolsby and Danny Fratina as a follow-up to “Olde Towne Team.”  Micha also sings it.  We wanted a clever and classy way to express our feelings about the Olde Towne Team’s hated rivals instead of the usual juvenile name-calling.

Long ago, lived a Babe, prettiest Babe of all
Pretty Babe, won some games, then the Devil called
When ol’ Scratch with a knock at his door
Brought a deal he just couldn’t ignore
Pretty Babe, got a trade, worst trade ever made

Devil brewed, vile plan: build a crooked team
He devised, bought some guys: rookies hard ‘n mean
Brought in boys from every town
Gave ‘em fame and girls to go round
Offered rye, got ‘em high, made it easy to comply

Devil mused, “Need a town, make my plan complete”
So he found, worst around: Apple’s county seat
Rotten mayor, he took to dine
Bribed the umps with bottles of wine
Stack of checks, helped annex; city got the pinstriped hex

Long, long time, Devil won every game there was
Devil’s team, it sure seemed, never lose, because
So deceived was everyone
Couldn’t tell a ball from home run
Other teams, they convened; contrived a rather clever scheme

Celebrate, Devil’s fate, Evil Empire’s fall
Other teams, reign supreme, Empire seems so small
When the Empire finally fell
Sent the Devil crying to Hell
Devil won’t be seen here again
